Return and Refund Policy

Effective Date: January 1, 2025

This Return and Refund Policy is issued by Basemart Nigeria Limited (“Basemart.ng”, “we”, “our”, or “us”) in compliance with the relevant laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, including the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Act (FCCPA), the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, Etc.) Act 2015, and other applicable regulations.


Definitions

  • "Platform": refers to the Basemart.ng webapp
  • "Vendor": refers to a registered seller on the Basemart marketplace.
  • "Buyer" or "User": refers to any individual or entity that places an order on Basemart.ng.
  • "Goods": refers to items sold by vendors through Basemart.ng.
  • "Return": the act of sending purchased Goods back to the Vendor.
  • "Refund": the process of reimbursing the Buyer for returned Goods.

User Return Rights

In line with Section 120 of the FCCPA, Buyers are entitled to return Goods within 2 calendar days from the date of delivery. Buyers must initiate the return by using the return interface on their Basemart.ng account. The returned item must:

  • Be unused and in original packaging.
  • Include all accessories and documentation received.

Goods not meeting these conditions may be rejected by the Vendor.

Vendor Obligations

  • Vendors are required to receive returned Goods that comply with the conditions stated above.
  • Vendors must issue refunds through the Basemart platform once the returned product is received and verified.
  • Vendors are prohibited from processing refund or return applications outside the Basemart platform. Any such requests will be deemed invalid.

Returns Process

  1. Buyer initiates return within 2 days via their Basemart account.
  2. Vendor is notified and must confirm receipt of return.
  3. Once confirmed, Basemart.ng facilitates the refund using the buyer’s original payment method.

Note: Basemart.ng reserves the right to intervene in any dispute and may override vendor decisions to protect buyers' rights.

Exclusions

The following items are non-returnable under Nigerian law and Basemart policy:

  • Custom or personalized goods.
  • Perishable items or items with an expired shelf life.
  • Goods unsealed after delivery that are unsuitable for return due to hygiene or safety concerns.

Data Handling and Compliance

All user data processed during return/refund requests is handled in compliance with the Nigeria Data Protection Regulation (NDPR) and the Cybercrime Act. Vendors must not use buyer information acquired during any transaction for marketing or unsolicited communication.

Intervention Rights

Basemart.ng may intervene in any refund or return issue where disputes arise, in the interest of customer satisfaction and compliance with legal standards. Vendors and Buyers agree that the platform’s resolution shall be final where necessary.
